Great Dismal Swamp Canal Trail

Chesapeake, Virginia

The Route 17 Greenway Study, in Chesapeake, Virginia included a detailed investigation of pedestrian reuse for a portion of road that is permanently abandoned with the new Route 17 Bypass. The old Route 17 follows the Great Dismal Swamp Canal in Chesapeake, VA.

LPDA provided technical design and visualization services for this greenway/blueway corridor study in Chesapeake.

Today, this significant linear park serves Chesapeake for multi modal transportation uses for its resident’s day to day function as well as several significant annual events.

LPDA is also the landscape architectural sub-consultant for the final design development and construction drawings for the park’s renovation. LPDA has participated in public meetings and direct coordination with the client to target the specific wants and needs of the users of the trail. This integrated approach has taken the plans from concept to final design.
