Town Center Park

Kilmarnock is a bucolic and classic old town steeped in the culture and history of the waterman, deadrise boats and agricultural industry. The community is also growing as a popular home town for families, retirees and tourists looking for a taste of a real “Northern Neck” town. Events and markets are important to the region and are essential to its vitality. The Town decided to plan and build a destination quality park focused on community amenity, events, festivals, markets and performances. LPDA was hired to create this landmark public space. We led a multidisciplinary team to design and build a dynamic community park that accommodated performances, events, markets and festivals. Community and park amenities were integrated into the plan. Trails, dog parks, playgrounds, civic plazas, and interactive water elements provide year-round activity. Town tourism and economic development staff looked closely at programming and financial return on investment. The LPDA team offered advice on operations and maintenance requirements. The park includes a signature amphitheater and pavilion designed for a wide range of event and performance types.
