LPDA developed a Parks, Recreation, and Open Space Master Plan for Warren County, Virginia.  The plan developed a clear path for future development of county parks.  The study looked at existing and proposed facilities and recommended potential improvements as well as new parks strategically located to facilitate to better accommodate a growing population in the county.

Through several on-call contracts, LPDA has worked with the county to implement the plan, preparing master plans, design drawings and construction documents for each improvement totaling 30 individual projects thus far. Projects have included park master planning and construction, greenway and trail planning and construction, playgrounds, athletic field complexes, dog parks, kiss and rides,  interpretive areas, canoe and boat launches, splash pads and memorials.

Representative projects include:

Design Standards –LPDA prepared design standards for the parks system including materials and architectural standards for site furniture, signage, shelters and comfort stations. The guidelines were used as the basis for a design build contract for a new athletic complex comfort and concessions building.

Water Access – Front Royal and Warren County are branded as the Canoe Capital of Virginia. LPDA has designed and administered the construction of Canoe and boat launches at several locations along the Shenandoah River.

The Eastham Riverfront Park was planned by LPDA and Parks staff to be a multi-purpose park with athletic fields, regional connecting trails, a dog park, and boat launch parking. LPDA has developed design plans and construction documents for all phases of the project starting with simple graphics and estimates for grant applications and funding requests to full design services for all the amenities and infrastructure.

Rockland Park – Leading a team of architects and civil engineers, LPDA prepared a detailed site master plan for this 219 acre district park. Work included environmental inventories, public participation, design, estimating and implementation planning. LPDA has been assisting the County in implementing the master plan. Work has included construction documents for athletic fields, trails, playgrounds and other amenities. LPDA has prepared multiple construction sets for trails, playgrounds and athletic fields with in the park.
