Appomattox River Greenway

The Appomattox River Greenway Trail is a continuous open space corridor along the Appomattox River from Roslyn Landing Park to the western city boundary, approximately two miles in length. LPDA designed multiple phases of this accessible greenway trail. Amenities include a boat launch, canoe launch, trailhead with playground and interpretive areas.

The trail navigates significant wetland areas and tidal channels. The trail offers an opportunity to restore, protect and interpret the environment and history of the Appomattox River while offering connections to adjacent properties in this rapidly developing area.  Phase I was funded through a DCR Grant and Phase II through Enhancement Grant funds (TEA).

The project required extensive coordination with DHR to protect and interpret remnants of the Atlantic Coast Line Railroad. LPDA worked closely with the City to develop an overlook and signage to interpret this resource.
